Rangipumamao (Koruru) is an illustrious ancestor of Ngati Te Kohera. He is the son of Pakeke Taiari and Parehinga Awatea and the grandson of Te Kohera and Rangiwhiu Akino. He adorned the meeting house that sat on Tihoi 6 whenua. Sadly the whare fell into disrepair and had all but collapsed when he was removed and deposited into the Nation Museum (Now Te Papa) in Wellington where he lay for approximately 75 years until he was rediscovered after research by a Trust member. He journeyed home in XXXX after initially been seen in November the previous year by trust members.

The trust organized a full ceremonial welcome home for our Koruru at Mokai Marae after stopping off at Paranui Marae in Himatangi (A Ngati Te Kohera marae) for the evening on his long trip home. The next day he was welcomed onto Mokai Marae with a formal powhiri which was attended by a large number of hapu members along with local dignitaries and Sir Tumu Te Heuheu the Tuwharetoa paramount chief. At the conclusion of the day he was taken in a very moving ceremony to be handed over to the Taupo Museum for safekeeping to be enjoyed by all visitors to the Tuwharetoa Gallery where he holds center stage
